Thailand Court Set to Rule on PM Prayuth¡¯s Tenure on Sept. 30
Thailand¡¯s Constitutional Court has set the date when it will rule on the status of suspended Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha.
The nation¡¯s highest court announced Wednesday that it will deliver its ruling on September 30 on whether or not Prayuth can remain in office.
The former military chief seized power in a 2014 coup that overthrew the democratically elected government of then-Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. The opposition party has filed a legal challenge that Prayuth has exceeded the constitutionally-limited eight years in office.
But his supporters have argued that his tenure actually began in 2017 when Thailand¡¯s new constitution took effect, or even as late as 2019 when parliament chose him to head a coalition government after parliamentary elections.
